About Us

A calling from God to pioneer a new work often comes as a divinely-sent burden that propels you into action. For Nehemiah, when he heard of the broken down walls of Jerusalem he received a divinely-sent burden that caused him to leave the comfort of his position in Persia to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. For Pastor Christopher Brooks and Evangel Ministries, when William Tyndale College closed in December 2004 leaving metro-Detroit with possibly the largest vacuum of Christian education for a major US city, they received a divinely-sent burden to pioneer a ministry that would provide high-quality theological and ministerial training for metro-Detroit that is affordable and accessible. And so the Detroit Bible Institute was birthed .

In December 2005, the Detroit Bible Institute began enrolling students for its first class session in January 2006. The Biblical Studies program required seven core classes and one elective class to graduate with a diploma in Biblical Studies and could be completed in one full year if two classes were taken in each of the four sessions. In the first year and a half, hundreds of students were enrolled and 11 graduated in July 2007 with a diploma in Biblical Studies. Some students have come to take a couple of classes while others have enrolled in order to complete the whole program and receive a diploma. In the first four years thousands of students from all over metro-Detroit have been trained and 52 have graduated with a diploma in Biblical Studies.

The 2009-2010 school year was a year of significant expansion of our faculty, classes and programs. In addition to the quality faculty already teaching, we added several new gifted and well-trained faculty. Also, several new class offerings were added and we inaugurated an entirely new Advanced Biblical Studies Program to build upon our revamped and improved Foundational Biblical Studies Program (formerly called our Biblical Studies Program).

In 2012, Rockpointe Community Church opened a DBI campus in Sterling Heights, which is now the main campus for the Detroit Bible Institute. There truly has never been a better time to study at the Detroit Bible Institute.
