OLD TESTAMENT SURVEY: Instructor — Pastor Keith Nelson

This is an introductory course for Old Testament study. The individual books and the main divisions of Hebrew Scripture are viewed with primary attention to their literary shape, theological teachings and relationship to the New Testament. Other key matters such as historical background, authorship, and sociological context are also addressed.

Monday: September 10, 17, 24; October 1, 8, 15, 22, 29; November 5, 12, 19, 26.

SYSTEMATIC THEOLOGY: Instructors — Professors Ella Lewis and Carol Smith

This class is designed to expose the student to the major doctrines of the Bible. Each doctrine will be studied in an organized and connected manner with the goal of creating a tight knit theological system, which students can use for discerning truth from heresy.

INTRODUCTION TO GREEK 1: Instructor — Professor Michael Smokovitz

This course is an introduction to the Greek language of the New Testament. Students will be both challenged and inspired to seek deeper levels of knowledge and understanding of the Bible through its original languages, and be given a basic set of tools and resources for doing so.

CHURCH HISTORY 1: Instructor — Pastor Christopher Brooks & Dea. Colleen Turrell

This course will examine the first millennia of Christian history. Attention will be given to the major thinkers, heresies, places, movements and creeds of the Church. The contemporary significance of the history of the Church will be discussed.

APOLOGETICS CLASSICAL ISSUES : Instructor( s) — Professors Michael Smokovitz & Chevelle Brown

This course is designed to equip Christians to understand and uphold the validity of the Christian faith. In particular, students will learn how to defend key doctrines such as the reliability of the Bible, the existence of God, the uniqueness of Christ and the Trinity.

HOMILETICS: Instructor — Pastor Les Smith

This class will teach students the art of sound biblical teaching and preaching. Picking up where Hermeneutics left off, students will learn how to communicate the original meaning of a text in a relevant and powerful way to a contemporary audience. Students will also be required to show proficiency in the areas of biblical research and sermon preparation.

STERLING HEIGHTS CAMPUS

OLD TESTAMENT SURVEY: Instructor — Dr. Analee Dunn

This class is designed to systematically survey the books of the Old Testament portion of the Bible. Students will learn all 39 books in sequential order. They will learn each book’s: historical setting, and Literary Features, one sentence summary, teachings about salvation, identifying Christ in the book, When events of the book happened, how the books fit into God’s story, and prophecies declared.

BIBLICAL LEADERSHIP – Bishop Larry Mann

In this class we will look at leaders in the Bible such as Moses, Deborah, Ruth, Nehemiah, Peter, and Jesus. We will study the character and qualities they posses and how we can apply those to our lives as both servants and leaders in our community. This biblical leadership class will also teach emerging and established leaders the principles that govern successful self-leadership, including the mentoringof aspiring leaders.

Text Books: The Leadership Style of Jesus: How to Make a Lasting Impact by Michael Youseff

ESSENTIAL CHRISTIAN DOCTRINE: Instructor — Dr. George Johnson

The course is a basic overview of the major historic doctrines of the Christian faith. Students will begin to see how the essential doctrines of the faith relate to one another.

Tuesday: September 11, 18, 25; October 2, 9, 16, 23, 30; November 6, 13, 20, 27.

Textbook: Christian Beliefs: Twenty Basics Every Christian Should Know by Wayne Grudem; Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance (KJV or NIV depending on your Bible)
